Fall Term

creating a deeper understanding of what summer camp means

PROJECT TITLE: CHB Austin Camper Stories

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

  • I am going to contact campers from Camp Half-Blood Austin, Texas and get their stories about camp.

  • I then am going to create a video with all of the stories and with photos from camp.

  • I am also writing an interactive speech about what a regular day at CHB is, and how it has helped me. I will also include a paragraph on what the camp is.

GUIDING QUESTIONS:

  • Do CHB campers have special stories from their time at camp?

  • Do other fans of Percy Jackson know about CHB?

GOAL(s):

  • To represent CHB with a video displaying camper's stories, and to show fans of PJO (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) that the camp exists.

EVIDENCE/RESEARCH:

  • I personally went to the camp, last summer. I also have watched a vlog of the camp from the perspective of a camper.

  • I will have a video and a paper copy of my speech displaying my results

EVALUATION:

    • I contacted Topher Bradfeild, the director of CHB, to see if he would want to asses my project. He is now my project mentor.

  • I have created my rubric for my project. See it here.

RESOURCES:

  • I went to the camp personally

  • I am going to talk to fellow campers

  • I have talked to Topher, the director of the camp.

  • Here is a link to a vlog of the camp and there are others, too.

REFLECTION:

  • I'm actually pretty good at communicating with strangers over social media, and I can figure things out on my own by just working at it for a bit.

  • I learned a lot of other camper's stories, and learned that a ton of other people got as much out of the camp as I did, and even had similar experiences to mine.

  • I addressed Clear and Effective Communication, Self-Direction, Creative and Practical Problem Solving, Responsible and Involved Citizenship, and Informed and Integrated Thinking.

PROCESS: See here for my project calendar.
