Spring term

pulling back the curtain to see behind the scenes of Walt Disney World's costuming

PROJECT TITLE: Disney-inspired dress

BRIEF (1-3 sentences) DESCRIPTION:

  • I am going to interview a person who works with costumes at Walt Disney World, and then use the process they use to make a dress inspired by a Disney character. I will alter thrift shop clothing to make the dress.

GUIDING QUESTIONS:

  • What is the process the Disney Designers use to make the costumes?

  • Can I create one that looks somewhat like the ones they use at the parks?

  • Is it possible to recreate their process?

GOAL(s):

  • To make a dress that (loosely) resembles the ones they use at the park.

  • To figure out the design and making process of the Disney fashion designers.

EVALUATION:

Donna Bailey, the woman I interviewed who works at Disney.

RESOURCES:

  • Interview with a fashion worker at Disney World Florida

  • Pictures of Disney Princesses clothing

  • Going to Walt Disney World Florida

REFLECTION:

This project didn't totally go the way I planned, but overall, I learned a lot and had a blast! I think talking with a costume designer from Disney World really helped me get a better idea of how things work behind the scenes. If I were to do this project again, I think I would have tried to sew the costumes from scratch instead of thrifting outfits and putting them together.

PROCESS: See here for my Project Plan.
