Orientation term
a trip down memory lane turned into an examination of ethical consumption under capitalism
What is my GOAL for the project?
To create 4 different dishes that sort of replicate the food served in the Walt Disney World parks. I am going to make 2 to try and replicate their recipes, and the other 2 to try to make the same dishes, but healthy and/or vegan, if possible. Oh, and I’m going to record myself creating them and make it into a video.
WHY do I want to understand or be able to do this? How does it CONNECT to my interest, passion or goals?
I have been really into cooking and baking videos lately, and so I thought it’d be fun to make my own! I also am really missing Disney World and so I want to make food from the parks, because if you can’t bring the girl to the park, you can bring the park to the girl.
What ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S) will guide my work?
-
How does WDW make their delicious treats?
-
How do you make food healthier? Is it a combination of fresh ingredients as well as healthy choices, or is it something else entirely?
-
How do you record a baking show? What prep goes into it? What do you do if it turns out bad?
What EVIDENCE/ARTIFACTS will I produce to know (and show others) that I have met my goal?
I will have my notes, the video of me creating the dishes, and hopefully a dish to share when I present!
How will I ASSESS the quality of the project?
See my rubric here.
Who can I INTERVIEW who has expertise in this field? What additional RESOURCES do I need?
I wonder if I can somehow interview someone who works in Disney World, and see how they make their treats? What is it like to work in the baking field in Disney World? Hmm… This might mean another series of Disney ‘please hold’ calls. Interesting.
What is the PROCESS for completing this project successfully?
-
Brainstorm a list of Iconic Disney Foods I want to make
-
See if someone has already created recipes for them, see if anyone tried to make them healthier. (Maybe I could have some foods where I just try to replicate them, and others where I try to make them healthy or vegan?)
-
Research recipes to see how to generally make recipes healthier. (i.e. substituting vegetable oil for eggs, etc)
-
Print out the recipes, create a shopping list
-
Have an interview with a WDW culinary employee
-
Submit a budget request (there’s another challenge- keeping it under $75!)
-
Go shopping for ingredients
-
Get cooking! I think one recipe per day would be enough. And, it would be fun to record my adventures, so I have evidence!
-
Evaluate how they taste, how accurate they are, etc
